The Briefmarken-Messe in Essen, Germany, has ceased to exist.
Last May, the IBRA international stamp exhibition took place in Essen and the Briefmarken-Messe was incorporated in it.
This site is about philately in the Netherlands and the colonies. Nevertheless, this post is of interest to Dutch collectors.
For years, the Essen fair was visited by many Dutch people. Not surprising, considering that for many collectors, Essen is closer than Amsterdam.
The fair was important: a large fair with an international range of dealers in stamps and postal history and many postal administrations. This was therefore the place for Dutch collectors to visit foreign vendors at a relatively short distance.
And don’t forget too, that many a collector made a day (or even days) out of it.
Those who have been coming to Essen for a long time probably remember the early days, when two halls were in use. One hall, the Tausch-Halle, was particularly popular with collectors. Here you could really still find something. We will certainly miss the fair.
Just wait and see if anyone will step into this hole.
